The Yobe Governorship Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja has upheld the election of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State in north-east Nigeria.
At the sitting of the Tribunal, Justice Mojisola Dada said that the petitioner, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Adamu Waziri, was unable to prove his allegations of corruption and other electoral irregularities before the Tribunal.
The PDP candidate had alleged that irregularities trailed the conduct of the April 11 governorship election and asked the Tribunal to nullify the results.
But Justice Dada ruled that the petitioner was unable to prove the allegations.
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Yobe State, on April 12declared Governor Gaidam of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2015 governorship election in the state.
Declaring the results at the INEC headquarters in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, the Returning Officer for the election in the state and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, said Governor Gaidam of the APC emerged winner with a total of 334, 847 votes to defeat Mr Waziri, who scored a total of 179, 700 votes.
