Nasarawa Signs MoU To Construct Lafia Airport

al-makuraThe Nasarawa State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Chinese firm for the construction of commercial airport in Lafia, the state capital.
Performing the ceremony at the Government House Lafia, Governor Tanko Al-Makura, said the airport when constructed, would serve both commercial and cargo service to the north central states.
Mr Al-Makura believes that Nasarawa State must take advantage of its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory by providing alternative airport service to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Governor Al-makura also presented the cheque of N4.3 billion bail out fund accessed from the Central Bank of Nigeria to the 13 Local Government Areas in the state.
He expressed support for the ongoing screening and documentation embarked upon by local government areas in the state, but worried over the fact that the incidence of ‘ghost’ workers have “eaten deep” into the finances of the local council.
“Ghost workers have eaten into the finances of the local governments and we totally support the screening and documentation embarked upon by councils and labour leaders. Revelations have shown that some individual receive salaries of as much as 5 to 6 workers,” Almakura said.
