Dickson responds to NBA’s query on court attack

Seriake Dickson
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has responded to the query issued to him by the Nigerian Bar Association over his alleged involvement in an attack on a Federal High Court in Yenagoa, disrupting proceedings in a pre-election case in April, The PUNCH has learnt.
Our correspondent has not been able to obtain a copy of Dickson’s response to the query, but the NBA President, Mr. Augustine Alegeh (SAN), confirmed that the national leadership had received it in a telephone interview on Sunday.
“Yes, we issued him a query and he has responded. We are considering his response,” he said.
Dickson, a lawyer, reportedly led police guards and thugs to the court premises, disrupting the proceedings in a suit filed by Heineken Lokpobiri, which challenged the validity of the candidacy of the governor’s preferred senatorial candidate, Foster Ogola, for the Bayelsa West senatorial district.
Furniture, windows and some parts of the court building were badly damaged during the attack.
Though, Alegeh declined to disclose the content of the governor’s response, he said the response would be considered along with the report of the local branch of the NBA in Yenagoa on the incident.
“We have also received the report by the local branch of NBA. The local branch’s report will assist us in taking decision on the matter,” Alegeh said.
The NBA president also said he could not tell when exactly the ongoing investigation would be concluded.
But he said he had confirmed from the NBA in Yenagoa that the court had started sitting after it was shut as a result of the attack.
“We have confirmed from the local NBA that the court has been rebuilt and has started sitting,” Alegeh said.
