AWCON: Mabo predicts tough times for Super Falcons

AS the Super Falcons step out this afternoon to begin the defence of their Africa Women Cup of Nations title with a game against Mali in Limbe, Cameroon, former coach Ismaila Mabo has told the team to brace up for a tough challenge.The Super Falcons, at the 2014 tournament beat all their opponents to lift the trophy, but the team have gone through some changes and it remained to be seen how they can cope having missed out of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, a competition that could have helped the Falcons.“I know it will be a difficult tournament. We have Cameroon whoare hosting and are eager to win their first title and also and Ghana there. Right from time these have been difficult opponents.“However, I believe in the ability of the present technical crew to lead the team to glory. The NFF did the right thing by appointing former players to lead the Falcons,” said Mabo.Super Falcons in Cameroon“It is a good development that more than half of the squad is made up of foreign based players. They should be able to bring their wealth of experience to bear on the team.“The likes of Asisat Oshoala, Francisca Ordega and Desire Oparanozie have the required experience to propel the team,” he said.Coach Florence Omagbemi acknowledged the challenge ahead, but pledged that the team will do everything to keep ahead.“It has never been easy against Ghana and Cameroon. We are going to take our matches one at a time because there are no smaller teams again in football,”
