Nigeria’s vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, has said young people mostly used by the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram to commit mass murder and destruction of public structure are victims of their own crimes.

Osinbajo stated this when he delivered a speech during the opening of the northeast Humanitarian Multi Stakeholders Engagement meeting on Tuesday, October 27, in Maiduguri, Borno state.
According to Premium Times, the vice president said many young people compelled by the insurgents to act as suicide bombers deserve the sympathy of the public because they were likely forced to become terrorists under circumstances beyond their control.
He said: “The first thing to understand is that there are lot of these young people who have been drawn into terrorists activities who are themselves victims. Clearly, any one of their age who will kill and maim innocent people have obviously imbibed something that is destructive.”
The Multi-Stakeholders engagement is organized by the office of the vice president in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) as an intro to implementing the multi billion naira presidential initiative for Northeast-Nigeria (PINE).
The vice president argued that while the federal government pursues its counter terrorism efforts in the northeast, young Boko Haram members as well as those who are likely to buy the Boko Haram ideology must be presented with counter narratives that could alter their ill-imbibed terror ideology.
Meanwhile, Osinbajo has said the anti-graft war will reach all those involved in corruption cases, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari-led government will not spare any individual found guilty.
