As part of efforts to move the Peoples
Democratic Party forward, its governors will meet in Abuja on Monday to
discuss ways of getting a new National Chairman for the party.
The meeting, which will be presided over
by the chairman of the Forum, who is also the Governor of Ondo State,
Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, is expected to discuss how to get a substantive
chairman for the party.
The party’s former National Chairman,
Mr. Adamu Mu’azu, was pressurised to resign by some members of the
party, including governors, following the disastrous outing of the party
during the last general election.
Since his untimely exit on May 20, the
Deputy National Chairman of the party, Mr. Uche Secondus, has been
acting as the national chairman of the now opposition party.
Investigations
by our correspondent in Abuja on Saturday, showed that the party was
still looking at the North-East, where the position of national chairman
was zoned to.
Announcing the former chairman’
resignation, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa
Metuh had said, “The National Working Committee PDP at its 399th meeting
today, Wednesday, May 20, 2015 received and accepted the voluntary
resignation of the National Chairman of our great party Ahmadu Adamu
Mu’azu.
